Measure your lawn in metres length × width, and that gives you the number of grass turf rolls required, as each roll covers 1 square metre. Add 5-10% to account for cuts, awkward edges, and any small waste. If you are unsure, call us on 01592 869 000, and we will work it out with you.

Turf rolls Scotland can be laid year-round, but spring and autumn give the best establishment conditions. Cooler temperatures mean less watering and faster rooting. Summer laying is fine with regular irrigation. Winter laying is possible provided the ground is not frozen or waterlogged.

Every batch of fresh turf rolls is harvested to order, the same morning it is dispatched. There is no stock sitting in a warehouse. That is only possible because we grow our own 400 acres, minutes from the M90 in Kinross.

Turf rolls should ideally be laid within 24 hours of delivery in warm weather, and within 48 hours in cool conditions. The sooner you lay the turf, the better. Rolled grass generates heat as it respires, and leaving it rolled for too long causes the grass to yellow and the roots to weaken.

A standard Turffit turf roll measures approximately 1 metre × 1 metre when laid flat, covering 1 square metre. Rolls are delivered ready to unroll and lay; no cutting is required to reach the standard size.

To calculate how many rolls you need, measure your lawn area in metres (length × width). Add 5-10% to allow for cuts along borders, curved edges, and any awkward corners. For example, a 20m² lawn requires approximately 22 rolls to allow for wastage.
