Turf Aftercare

Turf Aftercare

At Turffit, we want your newly laid turf to last as long as possible. That's why after the installation of your turf, we will provide you with a detailed aftercare sheet that contains all the information you will require to keep your lawn in top condition.

Keep Your New Lawn Watered

Lawn turf is extremely perishable – install it immediately and keep it moist. Upon the installation of your turf, you should drench your new lawn immediately. Thereafter, a light watering once or twice a day for approximately 10 days (except on days of decent rainfall) will ensure your lawn establishes quickly and remains healthy, minimises stress, and avoids gaps forming at the seams.

Ensure Water Can Penetrate Through The Turf

Your new lawn is likely to be soft underfoot for the first 10 days or so. If this is the case, use turfing boards to walk on until your feet leave no impression in the grass. This will happen once the grass has formed a new root system.

Roll and Aerate Your Lawn

Your lawn would benefit from being rolled, this should be done no sooner than three weeks after installation. It should also be done every spring to combat any frost heave. If there are excessive worm casts, rake over the lawn first before rolling. Aeration of any low lying damp areas with a garden fork is also beneficial at this time.

Mowing Instructions

When mowing it is crucial that no more than a third of the leaf area is cut at any one time. For example, if grass height is 1.5 inches – only mow to 1 inch.

During periods of rapid growth (May to September) grass may be cut two or three times a week. This will help to remove mushroom growth which is common in fertile turf grass.

Fertilise Your Lawn

Clippings make good green fertiliser. However, it is preferable that they are removed occasionally to reduce disease and thatch build up. Light feeding every 4 to 6 weeks will maintain lawn health and appearance as well as reducing the risk of disease.
